In early April, we traveled to the Santa Cruz mountains, failing to avoid Bear Creek Road, which winds through the mountains and is filled with locals who are much more comfortable at much higher speeds and tell you so by repeatedly honking the horn. There we arrived at
Love Apple Farms to recieve the collected the wisdom of its proprietor, adopt some tiny heirloom tomato seedlings, and chart a path home not including Bear Creek Road.
After repotting the tiny shoots in enormous pots, watering, moving them inside, outside, and back again, watering again and again, constructing a mini greenhouse out of plastic sheeting and chickenwire, the little plantsexploded into enormous green shrubs taking up the entire porch.
Today the first of the tiny green orbs turned fully red. It was sweet and fresh.
