I created Memepool in 1998 or so; Jeff Smith and I were editors and at its height there were approximately a hundred writers. It was what would later be called a "blog" but that term was not around at the time. Since free SQL databases were not really available at the time, I wrote my own simple in-memory database to process and generate the site. I don't think I've touched it since. Someday I'll get around to either porting it to modern blog tools or perhaps doing something more interesting with the architecture or design.
